There are 2 major references which I used to prepare this classe.

Introduction to Fiber Optics by Ajoy Ghatak and K. Thyagarajan
Several copies are available at the IOGS library.

This book covers the whole field of optics with optical fibers. It includes most of the
material that I will use in the first part and has a nice chapter on the coupling of guided waves.
It is also a good source of data and exercises. To you it will also be useful for other courses
including lasers and detection.

Optique Guidée by Jacques Bures
Copies in french or in english are available at the IOGS library

This is probably my favorite as a reference book if you wish to master the field of propagation in optical fibers. It clearly goes behiond the scope of this class but it is really a teaching book.
